Cassidy Bros polished concrete shines at DCU

Dublin City University’s regeneration of recreational space is topped off with finely finished polished concrete furniture and installations crafted by Cassidy Bros.

A full facelift of the three-acre space was undertaken by McKeown Group Construction Contractors with design by planning and landscape specialists Brady Shipman Martin (BSM).

The project involved the design and manufacture of bespoke creations made from exposed, polished concrete, including paving, benching and planter walls.

Cassidy Bros was involved right from the beginning of the design stage of this project, which involved 131 linear metres of plantar walls and benching.

Managing Director, David Cassidy, explains: “This was a complete facelift for a wonderful space and it was great to have such a strong input, along with BSM, into the type and colour of concrete to be used. We created a range of samples before deciding on the best option to help regenerate the space.

“We were delighted to be involved in this DCU regeneration project. Situated near the Helix, this finished project really does give the space a new lease of life. The team at Cassidy Bros is very proud to have played a part in making DCU’s recreational outdoor area a warmer and more welcoming environment.”

DCU – Our process

  • The architect approached Cassidy Bros for assistance in getting the perfect fit concrete shapes and colours to regenerate the space.
  • We worked with the architect and contractors to create practical designs which would be visually stunning when constructed.
  • A number of construction samples were created, along with layout drawings, for approval.
  • Full construction drawings were completed by our team.
  • The manufacturing process was completed and the product transported to DCU for assembly.
